About The Ro
The Radio Ro, a St. Louis based underground hip-hop group, have diligently spent time paying dues and working the circuit to get as much MC experience and status as they can. The group started humbly gaining experience at talent shows hosted by college campuses including SIUC (Southern Illinois University of Carbondale) and Milliken University in Decatur. As the groups comfort level and confidence grew, they performed off and on until they progressed to south St. Louis Club Supreme for open mic nights. Roughly 2 and a half years after the group seriously got started, they spent more time in the booth recording new tracks and improving old ones. With new and different experiences at shows and in front of crowds, as well as personal ups and downs, the group was more intrepid with their lyrics and synchronized as a group. Jan 20th, 2006, they performed at The Pageant with other underground artists from the St. Louis area.
DPP, AJ Sensation, J Dubb, Beezy, and Joe Louis make the core of the Radio Ro. DPP and AJ Sensation started out with a radio show at Elmhurst College outside of Chicago called Radio Rotationists. With a freestyle to end each night, they collaborated with other area artists and got massive positive responses from students and area listeners alike. They began writing lyrics seriously while searching for outlets to voice their talent.
J Dubb was introduced through family and friends. While not a lyricist at the time, he was making his own instrumentals. In the early stages of learning how to sample and put tracks together, he was seen as a valuable asset who could add diversity lyrically and creativity on the keyboards.
Beezy had experience with being an MC in the past. He also brought a new visual flair contrary to the other three. While his counterparts wear jeans and a T-Shirt, Beezy stands out clean shaven in an oxford and white Kangol. His lyrics are also the most introspective focusing on different perceptions of situations.
Joe Louis is the latest member to be recruited, but he may be the most valuable. Like J Dubb, Joe Louis has experience with making beats. J Dubbs tracks usually have a more modern feel, Joe Louis has tracks reminiscent of DJ premier. His spoken words are also more focused towards correcting the inadequacies and faults in hip hop today.
Currently the group has large projects on the horizon. The Radio Ro'recently released "16 Bars The Resurgence", a follow up to their first project Heavy Rotation, which is available for download on this site.
