We are in the early stages of works on the first video off the "Lyrical Lessons" album, called "Frank and Nino". This will be produced by B Dot Productions who co-shot "The Essence" (available in the Video section of this site). We're not gonna give you too much but this will be the first installment of a 3-part series of videos that will introduce the "Lyrical Lessons" album to the world. Stay tuned cause big things are brewing for the Ro'9.

Today is a pretty big day in the hip hop world. Two major artists' albums are dropping today.
The first album is Kanye West's 808s and Heartbreak. Highly anticipated album from Kanye. Puts you in the mindset of a Phil Collins' album. I enjoyed listening. It was diffrerent. I recommend the track, "Streetlights". That is my favorite. The second album is Ludacris's "Theatre of the Mind". This is Luda's 6th album and he delivers yet again. I enjoyed this album so much that its hard to name a favorite track. You can definitely press play and listen from beginning to end without complaint. I recommend the track, "Wake Up". Very well done.

Magazines...What happened to there credibility?

I write this on the tail end of the Vibe cover with Plies stating, "The Future of Rap".....WTF??? Magazines now-a-days do not focus on the art of music anymore, they just focus on controversy and selling copies at the expense of credibility. Vibe is not the magazine, the Source lost its credibility when owner/rapper started popping off about Eminem. Even XXL, though probably the better of the previous mentioned, even cators to the Eminem's and 50 cents 's of the industry.
I just wish magazines would focus on the facts and breaking new artists rather than cycling articles of their favorite artists over and over.

I have been listening to a lot of the songs off of Kanye West's new album "808s and Heartbreaks" and I must say he is definitely creating his own lane. The album is very personal yet deals with a lot of the insecurities in the world today. Kanye is really connecting to all music lovers and not type casting himself into one category. If you are a fan of music, this is the album for you.

I have been reading various comments on various websites talking about how they are tired of the same thing. I see their point but there are some artists doing music outside the norm and they get deemed wack for trying something different.
Like kanye's new album, he is using the vocoder throughout the whole album and singing. He is stepping outside the box, testing his limits. a lot of people are ridiculing him for that...why? Isnt that what you all asks for...something different...i dont get people. I know T-Pain started the big vocoder uses for THIS generation...i know roger and zapp are the originators....but T-Pain got ridiculed in the beginning as well for doing a different style of music and unconventional topics.
I'm just saying, we can agree to disagree on alot of music but dont stimey the artists by killing their creativity by bashing them when they try something new. The best way to show your disapproval is to just not support those artists, dont bad mouth them for trying new things.

How do you feel about the hip hop awards?

I think it was a good idea that went the wrong direction. The premise was good but the show is too heavily influenced on who's doing what for BET at the time. Its not about who is really deserving of the awards, it's more of a popularity contest.
For instance, Wayne wins Lyricist of the year....LYRICISTS...Wayne can spit but we all know he ain't saying nothing about nothing. Especially against the likes of Nas, Lupe, Common, etc. That's where the show leans to favoritism. Now they do a good job of mixing a relevant award or two in there like the "I am Hip Hop" award that goes to legends in the game and their tribute performances but that's where it ends.
As I stated, it's a good idea that needs to be redirected on the right path. |
